CES show day 3 summary

Day 3 was very productive. We stopped by the Panasonic Sony Samsung and Sharp booths. Each featured upgraded 4k iterations and wearable tech of their own. Panasonic displayed a electric scooter that has replaceable rechargeable Li-Ion battery packs. We also visited the ground floor of South hall to round out the day. We are very excited about the products we were provided for review from Marshal headphones and Urbanears and more. Stay tuned for all the Gizmo goodness.

CES show 2015 Day 2 a Quantum conundrum

We started out our day in the central hall on day three. The home of the big TV manufacturers and the flashiest booths in the show. LG displayed a huge presence with a ultra modern open concept booth. Inside they featured a spectacular array of OLED, LED and new Quantum Dot TV'S. All displayed excellent picture quality.

I was very releaved to see OLED so strongly featured as rumors were serculated that they had abandoned this technology due to high manufacturing costs. This is the defacto king of the TV world. Nothing else really even comes close. LG also showed what seemed to me the future of curved TV. A series of OLED that adjusted from curved to flat screen mode on command. The viewing angle was excellent and therefore adjustable to the users preferance.

The "Quantum" leap in TV tech this year is Quantum Dot technology. It defenitly improved upon the LED technology, but is not a completely new thing. It actually has been used in TV'S for the past few years to increase their color response and contrast. The new version is more colorful and brighter than any LEDTV of the past. But still looks posively chubby next to the OLED. LG also employed the IPS screen technology which maintained the color and contrast of the Quantum TV even at extreme viewing angles.

We are heading back to the central hall today to see more on day 3 of the international CES show 2015.

Gizmos galore 3D printing Virtual Reality and genius designs

Unfortunately I am a little late in my post today as it is actually the morning of Day 2. Day 1 was a very interesting start to our trip. We tackled the tech start ups section of the exhibition showcasing designs and models of innovative products to come. From a suit of wireless cameras that record a 720 degree HD view of the space they are in to 3D printers that scan and replicate autonomously, it was allot to take in. I found several highlights of the day particularly interesting.

First was the ALLIE booth, which showcased a group of wireless cameras that record a HD 720 degree view of your world. One in particular is aimed at the GoPro market. Picture a camera that sees every angle at once. No blind spots and no missed views. Then picture using your tablet seeing what was recorded and being able to move your perspective around to see what happened to your left or right or even above your cameras position. It was amazing and we hope to bring you more information on this product soon. We also checked out at the booth a very  reative airial drone from IC Realtech that incorporates this camera. The possibilities are endless at this point but we will be watching both products with excited anticipation.

We also enjoyed learning more about the expanding world of 3D printers. In fact many of the prototype products we checked out were 3D printed for the show as pre production examples. The printers themselves range in price, starting at $599 and climbing into the thousands. But I was reminded of the replicators of Star Trek with the amazing product these machines can turn out. If you can dream it and draw it in the design program on your computer, you can print it. I want one myself so that I can maybe invent something myself one day.

We also surveyed the endless sea of smart watches and health monitors. A stand out was the Swarovski crystal health monitor and smart watch. It did have many practical applications but I think it will mostly be puchase because of its beauty rather than function.

We are excited to be heading to the TV's  and Audio areas today. We will keep you posted with the days Gizmos and Gadgetry.

Things we will be watching at CES 2015

There is always so much to take in at the Consumer Electronics Show. But we have our eye on a few particular technologies this year.

First of these is Virtual Reality or VR. Several companies have show VR products in the past few years but most were heavy, expensive and corded to a Playstation or computer. We will be interested to see how these products have developed and whether they are ready for the mass Gizmo market or not.

The second area of interest is wearable technologies. These take many forms from wrist bands to connected clothing. But none have seen much success so far. They need to be more convenient to use and perform better then the products we already use (smart phone apps ect.) to really be worth the money. But this product category has had time to mature over the last year and we are excited to see what changes have come.

Gizmo review Gear4 Anrgy Birds table top audio system

I have to admit when I first set eyes on this little audio dock I was skeptical. I know from experience that most gismos that are link to a big name like "Angry Birds" spend most of their money on marketing and very little on product design. But that has not been my experience this time around. These Angry Birds really sing! I sampled the Red bird for this review as I have a variety of devices to connect and only a IPad for Apple devices. There are three options available though including the Red bird, Black bird and a not so angry looking Pig. Each is equipped with two speakers roughly in the cheeks and a sub woofer at the bottom. Also each has a volume control and base control as well as a 3.5mm stereo audio input for connecting to the audio out of your device. The Black bird and Pig come with respective IPod docks as well. The Red bird includes a small device stand and dual 3.5mm connecting cable which served me well for testing as it allowed me to connect to the sound card output of my laptop as well as my Samsung phone and IPad's headphone out. In each case Red produced lively base and excellent highs for its small size. Its a great little sound system for a tabletop Netflix setup with a tablet or for a quick little upgrade for your laptops sound at your desk. The feel and finish is very good and in its eye catching red its sure to be spotted where ever it lands.

Gear4 Angry Birds Red Bird

  • 3.5mm Auxiliary Input

Gizmo reviews Panasonic RP-HC800 Noise Canceling Headphones

Gizmo Digital is excited to review the new Panasonic noise canceling headphones. I have always been a big fan of Panasonic and subsequently have owned many pairs of their residential and commercial grade headphones. From ear buds to DJ style headphones I have always been impressed with their quality and durability. So when I got my hands on a pair of the new RP-HC800 noise canceling headphones you can imagine how excited I was to get using them.

These are impressively designed wired headphones. Comfortable to wear and ergonomic with a over ear design. They are light weight and yet very sturdy. One of my favorite features is the swivel design to the ear enclosures. With noise canceling headphones one drawback is that they do a pretty good job of canceling out background noise (go figure right?!). But this can be annoying if you have to keep taking them off to hear the airline attendant or pretty much anything else you might need to listen to momentarily around you. But it is very easy to swivel the ear piece on the Panasonic out of the way temporarily and replace with ease. Another excellent feature is that these noise canceling headphones continue to work even if your batteries are dead, they just operate in passive mode and function as standard headphones until you replace the dead battery.

Features:

  • Swivel Ear Enclosures
  • Light Weight Design
  • Dual Noise Pickups For Superior Noise Elimination
  • 1/4" Headphone adapter Included
  • Dual Airline Connection Adapter Included
  • Carrying Case Included
  • Hands-free Headphone Cable Included
